Basic Child Care Course

Module 1 of 2 towards Further Education and Training Certificate:

Early Childhood Development NQF Level 4

Outcome:
To provide the learner with the knowledge and skills to work as a professional nanny with a family and/or as an educator for children aged 0-3 years in a crèche or playgroup.

Course Content:
This course is the first part of a full level 4 qualification. It covers the following subjects and more…

• Child development norms
• feeding
• nutrition
• first aid (level 1 including child CPR)
• learning through play
• daily care and routines of children
• behaviour management
• activities for children 0-3 years

Course Duration & Structure:
There are currently two methods of completing this course:
Full Time: 6 Months: This entails the learner attending college for lectures every second week Mon – Fri 9am -12pm. The learner will do 250 Hours practical placement experience on the alternate week when he /she does not attend lectures.
Part Time: 10 Months : The learner will attend lectures every Saturday for three hours and 150 Hours of practical placement experience must be completed in the learners own time.

Entry Requirements:

• Matric Pass
• Merit or Distinction in Advanced Crèche Assistant Course
• Must pass an entrance test
• a passion and commitment to children and a positive attitude

Successful Completion:
On successfully completing this course. You will obtain a certificate which confirms you have covered the following Unit Standards

You will be able to continue with the Pre-School module which will give you a full NQF level 4 recognized qualification
